Hear

I thought I heard you laughing
And I swung around to see
Just friends talking, passing by
I thought I saw your silhouette
You were walking towards me
But I turned up and saw that it was someone else in sight

I look around, I listen
I try to find your voice
Amidst the sea of people who see right through me
I take some time to think about the last time you were here
The last time that I was with you
Days, months, away for too long

Where have you gone?
The question comes to me again
Whispered to my heart
Echoing through the hollow walls

And through the day your ghost walks past the corner of my eye
Through the day I hear you laugh and call my name
And amidst the chaos of the world
The noise I drown to muffled moans
Still something gets past
From the blur emerges a faint image that disappears when I turn

A self-made curse
Blinders I have placed
Gates locked from within
